Whoosh! As the two black T-38s flew by, the 3rd Annual Lincoln 2008 Airport Day began! But soon, an unexpected visitor showed up – it was Steve Coutches in a beautiful P-51D! He landed, taxied, and even waved to the crowd! Then, an F-22 and two Extras took off – but they were radio controlled! The pilots were very good. Whoosh! Vroom! Two more radio controlled planes took off, but this time they were an F8F Bearcat and a P-51! They zigged and zagged, climbed and dove, trying to get on the other plane’s tails in a daring dogfight! I thought that they would crash! But all too soon it was over. Bill Stein and Warren Pietsch were up already when a parachutist appeared! They circled the lone parachutist who displayed a big American flag as the national anthem played. When the parachutist landed, Warren and Bill did a little something together. They knifedged past each other, hammerheaded at the same time, and even lomchevoked together! Whoosh!
A fleet of three T-28s followed by an AT-6 and a CJ6 Nanchang took to the sky next. They rocked out loud – especially the powerful T-28C! Then the P-51 that had busted in on the show jumped into the sky! He flew back and forth, making banana passes all the way for those of us with cameras. When he was done, Tim Decker took off in his Pitts S2B! He zoomed back and forth, doing lomchevoks and hammerheads at each end! WHOOSH! The crowd went wild with oohs and aahs! As soon as Tim landed, Warren Pietsch took off! He did an amazing performance, including cutting a ribbon - upside down!
Up next: Bill Stein. He started out with a dive, and then zoomed up while doing a knifedge spin. Then he dove again, shooting upward at the last minute! Torque rolls, tumbles, hammerheads, you name it, and he did it! Out of nowhere, roared Eddie Andreini! He has modified his Stearman so much that he has a closed canopy and an over 450 horsepower engine in that bad boy! He snap rolled, and then zoomed across show center, doing stunts all the way! ROAR! He looped up, and came down tumbling! I thought it was the end, but he pulled out just in the nick of time! Eddie rocked! He totally ripped up the sky. But then - Eddie took the dare! He cut a ribbon - upside down with that big Stearman! Boy, the crowd sure went crazy for that!
And to round off the show, Julie Clark took off in her beautiful Beech T-34. With precision and grace, she showed the crowd how beautiful an air show performance can be, ending the great 3rd Annual Lincoln 2008 Airport Day!
