WHOOSH! The crowed applauded as the F-15E Strike Eagle roared past the flight line with vapor surrounding the fuselage. We were at the Wings Over Wine Country Airshow in Santa Rosa, California, and we were having a blast! The crowd sure loved that F-15, and there was plenty more where that came from!
Everyone loved the show in the sky, but there was a great one on the ground, too! The Pacific Coast Air Museum rolled out their airplanes, and they were even letting people sit in them! There were so many kids that loved sitting in the hi-tech airplanes; that made their day. I can’t think of another show where people can sit in F-4’s, F-86’s, and much, much more. But their day was about to get even greater because the airshow was starting!
Spencer Suderman in his Pitts S2B went up and wowed the crowd, disappearing into the still low but dissipating morning clouds. They loved it when Jim Adams flew his radio controlled YAK-54, looping and rolling, and even hanging on the prop! Then, just as the clouds dissolved, Greg “Wired” Colyer took off in his amazing T-33 jet “Ace Maker” and ripped up the sky! He even got some vapor! Next, Vicky Benzing set the sky on fire in an awesome display of aerobatics. Then, the warbirds awed the crowd as they zoomed past the flight line.
Now it was time for the big dogs. An F-15E Strike Eagle flew to Santa Rosa and lit the sky ablaze, going full throttle with the afterburners! And last but definitely not least was the F/A-18 Hornet, which wrapped up the show by tearing up the sky, going extremely fast and pulling lots of G’s! The F-15 and F-18 made tons of vapor and the crowd went crazy.
I had a great time at the 2010 Wings Over Wine Country Airshow, and I’m sure that everyone that was there with me had a good time too. So be sure to be there for the 2011 Wings Over Wine Country Airshow!
